What is EPAT Shockwave Therapy?
EPAT is a non-invasive cutting-edge and highly effective treatment method for healing damaged joints, muscles and bones.  High-energy sound waves are introduced into the painful areas of the body to accelerate the healing process in the body by stimulating the metabolism,  enhancing blood circulation and activate stem cells  to regenerate damaged tissue. These sound waves (shocks)  create micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The force created by these bubbles penetrates tissue and stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and soft tissue healing.

How is the treatment performed?

Dr. Callard will evaluate the area being treated,  Ultasound gel is then applied to the treatment area, specific shockwaves are then introduced into the tissues.

 

How many treatments are generally needed?
Five treatment sessions necessary, 1 per week for 5 weeks and each session takes between 10-15 minutes.

 

What type of results are expected?
Beneficial effects are often experienced after only 1 or 2 treatments and there is no downtime as is with surgery. This advanced technology has a 91% success rate as per clinical studies, patients treated report being pain free and /or have a significant reduction in pain. The non-surgical therapy eliminates pain and restores mobility, thus improving patient’s quality of life

 

What are the possible side effects?
Treatment with EPAT technology has virtually no side effects. In some cases, patients may experience minor discomfort for a few days. Patients can return to their normal daily activities following treatments.

 

Who is a candidate for EPAT?

Anyone with joint damage and pain are good candidates for EPAT treatments. However, EPAT shockwaves cannot be applied to the spine, lung tissue or over the abdomen of a pregnant patient.  Dr. Callard will provide you with information about conditions you may have that would affect your ability to undergo treatment.
